A warm welcome to TOV !
TOV is a Community Based Organisation in Tsumeb, Namibia, which is providing physical, emotional and educational support to school age children who are orphaned or in other ways vulnerable as a direct result of the affect of HIV/AIDS on themselves and their families.
TOV comes from the Hebrew word and means good or delightful. The name was chosen by the centre’s manager, Rev. Edward Amadhila, who set up the organisation in 2001. The Centre is based in Nomtsoub which is the former black township area of Tsumeb. TOV emerged in response to the growing number of children who have become orphaned or vulnerable due to losing family to HIV/AIDS. In the past, children have been absorbed into their extended family. However, increasingly, family members are finding it hard to cope with the additional financial and emotional burdens of looking after more children.
TOV’s work can be split into two distinct groups, that of income generation activities and support for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. The income generating projects include a preschool, day care (after school care and support), computer training, income generation projects for community members and the Evergreen Farming Project.
The activities to support the OVC’s include a daily feeding programme, teaching of life skills programmes and the provision of school fees, uniforms, school materials and clothing.
