Building today for a brighter tomorrow

AIDS already accounts for 9% of adult deaths from infectious diseases in the developing world.  By 2020, that share will quadruple to more than 37%.  The global death toll will soon surpass the worst epidemics of recorded history. At TOV, we have undertaken a number of projects !

We have started a number of after school programmes at TOV centre, they include:

Window of Hope

A programme for 10-14 year olds that aims to equip children with the self esteem, knowledge and skills to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS and to care for others infected or affected by the disease.  The programme looks at each individual being assertive and saying No to early sex, making good decisions, developing self esteem, creating positive attitudes towards people who are infected with HIV and caring for people who are sick.  The programmes activities include singing, story telling, role playing and art with the overall theme being about developing children’s strengths, values and skills to become responsible adults. The Windows include:

The I am Special Window: Developing Self awareness and self esteem

The Power Window: Dealing with HIV/AIDS

The Change Window: Experiencing changing bodies and changing feelings

The Window of Love: Dealing with relationships

Sports Club

An afternoon of games and sports on the local field attended by between 30-80 kids.  Fundraising applications to the British High Commission have enabled us to buy a good collection of sports equipment including netball poles, volley ball nets, balls and bats.  The programme is looking to create winners and winning attitudes both on and off the pitch.  We are also looking to tackle the Gender inequality which is rife in Namibia and results in many girls being disempowered both in the home and at work.  We are empowering girls by encouraging them to play football whilst the boys attend netball lessons.
